Construction software: the flows to put on video first

Published on

Which video tutorials to create first for construction-site or building-trade software: the flows that cut the most support questions.

Start with what support hears most

In construction software, not everything needs a video. The right starting point is the list of the most frequent questions to support and customer success. A well-placed video answers them once and for all, at any hour, in the help center.

The flows that come up most often

  • Create a site and invite the team: the first move of every new user.
  • Create a site quote: a long flow with lines, taxes and discounts, where every label counts.
  • Track progress and issue a work-in-progress statement.
  • Schedule a site meeting and share the minutes.
  • Add photos and snags from the field.
  • Export the schedule or the budget for a third party.

Why these flows go stale fast

Quote and invoicing screens change with every regulatory or commercial evolution: a “New quote” button becomes “Create a quote”, a VAT field moves. These are the most viewed videos, and so the costliest to leave wrong.

How to choose: frequency and risk of going stale

For each candidate flow, ask two questions. How often does support hear about it? How often does the screen concerned change? A flow that is both frequent and moving, like the quote, goes first: it is the one that costs most in wrong videos. A rare, stable flow, like a yearly export, can make do with a written help page.

Add a third question: will the video replace an explanation given over the phone? If so, it pays for itself in the first weeks.

One script for several audiences

The same flow serves field teams, the design office and management, with different vocabularies. Describe it once as a script and produce languages or variants instead of recording several videos by hand. Democlap offers flow and extras templates ready for construction to get started quickly.

Your tutorials no longer go stale

On every production release, Democlap rebuilds your tutorials from your demo environment. If a flow no longer works, nothing is published: the last good video stays online and you see the step to fix.
